President is a race to get rid of every card you hold. A trick is opened with any number of cards of one rank, and everyone after that has to answer with the same number of cards of a higher rank — a lead of two sevens has to be beaten by two of something bigger, not by one ace.
Passing takes you out of the current trick, not out of the round. Once everybody has passed, the table is swept clean and whoever played last opens the next trick, which is the moment worth playing for.
From Scum to President: Why Every Round Changes the Next One
Cards rank from the three up to the two, so the two is the best card in the game and the three is the worst. The first player to go out is the President; the last one still holding cards is the Scum.
That standing follows you into the next round. The Scum hands their two best cards up and the President hands any two back down, which is exactly as unfair as it sounds — and exactly what makes climbing out of last place feel like something.
Set Your Own House Rules and Fill the Table with Bots
President seats three to eight players, and any empty seat can be filled with a bot at three difficulties. Bots see what you see and never look at your hand; the harder ones dump low cards in bulk and sit on their twos until sitting on them stops paying.

How do you play President?
The whole deck is dealt out between three to eight players. Is President the same game as Daifugo or Scum?
Yes. President, Daifugo, Asshole, Scum and Presidente are the same shedding game under different names, with house rules that vary by country. The Japanese version is played with the revolution and eight-stop rules, which are both settings here — the Daifugo preset turns them on for you.
How many players do you need for President?
Three at least, and up to eight. Any empty seat can be filled with a bot, so a match can be started at any time. A bigger table means smaller hands and more rounds of trading, which changes how the game feels rather than just how long it takes.
Why does the loser give their best cards away?
That is the point of the game: finishing last costs you your two best cards at the start of the next round, and the President hands back whatever they least want. It is meant to be unfair, which is what makes climbing out of last place worth doing. The trade can be shortened to one card or switched off entirely in the settings.
