Farkle Online: Six Dice, and Knowing When to Stop

How a Turn of Farkle Works, One Throw at a Time

A turn starts with all six dice. Throw them, then take at least one die that scores out of the bowl — and every die you take has to be earning its place, so a lone 3 cannot come along for the ride.

Now the only decision the game asks: throw the dice still in the bowl to add to the turn, or stop and bank what you have. Every throw makes the turn worth more and leaves you fewer dice to make the next one with.

What Scores, and What Farkling Costs You

A single 1 is 100 and a single 5 is 50. Three of a kind is a hundred times its face, except three 1s, which are 1000, and four, five and six of a kind are worth more again. Four combinations need all six dice in one throw: a straight, three pairs, two triplets, and four of a kind alongside a pair.

If a throw contains no scoring dice at all you have farkled, and every point the turn had accumulated is gone. That is the whole game — six dice farkle about once in forty throws, two dice about four times in nine, and the turn is worth most at exactly the moment it is likeliest to end with nothing.

Set the Table's Own Rules, and Fill It with Bots

Farkle seats one to six players, and any empty seat can be filled with a bot at three difficulties. Bots see exactly what you see: an easy one banks early, a normal one plays the odds of the dice it has left, and a hard one also reads the scoreboard — pushing when it is behind and stopping the moment banking wins.

Almost every rule is yours to set: the target score, the entry score a first turn has to reach, what four and five and six of a kind pay, what each six-dice combination is worth, whether hot dice hand the whole set back, whether passing the target opens a final round, and whether farkling several turns running costs you points.

FAQ

How do you play Farkle?
Throw six dice, set aside at least one die that scores, then choose: throw the dice you have left to add more, or stop and bank what the turn is worth. A throw with no scoring dice in it is a farkle, and the whole turn is lost. The first player to bank the target score — usually 10,000 — wins. You can play it at Bloob.io's Farkle.
What scores in Farkle?
A single 1 is 100 and a single 5 is 50; no other die scores on its own. Three of a kind is a hundred times its face, and three 1s are 1000. Four, five and six of a kind are worth more again. Four combinations need all six dice in one throw: a straight (1500), three pairs (1500), two triplets (2500), and four of a kind with a pair (1500). Every one of those values is a setting here.
What are hot dice?
When every die on the table has been set aside, you get all six back and keep the points already riding on the turn. It is the best thing that can happen mid-turn and the most dangerous: the points at risk are now larger than they have ever been, and you are throwing again to grow them. Tables that do not play it can switch it off in the settings.
Is Farkle the same game as 10,000, Zilch or Greed?
Yes. Farkle, 10,000, Dice 10,000, Zilch and Greed are the same push-your-luck dice game under different names, with scoring tables that vary from house to house. The differences are all settings here, so the version you learned is very likely one you can set up in the lobby.
Can you play Farkle with friends, and is it free?
Yes to both. Create a match at Bloob.io's Farkle and send the link, and anyone with it can join from a phone, tablet or computer with no account and nothing to install. The same is true of every game on Bloob.io.
