Super Tic Tac Toe, also known as Ultimate Tic Tac Toe, is an advanced version of Tic Tac Toe. While in the regular version you can always force a draw, this variation allows for more tactical thinking and insight. To win, you’ll need to plan ahead and force your opponent’s moves.
What are the rules?
Just like in regular Tic Tac Toe, players place either an X or an O in one of the available squares. Instead of playing on a normal 3x3 field of squares, you play nine small games of Tic Tac Toe in a 3x3 grid. These small games in turn form one large overall game.
Each match starts with the first player choosing any available square. After the first player places their mark, the playable field changes to the one that corresponds to where the mark was placed. For example, if you place an X on the top-right square of a small field, the next player will have to place their mark somewhere in the top-right 3x3 small game field.
When you manage to get three of your marks in a row, you win that field and it turns into your mark. If your move changes the playing field to a completed or drawn field, your opponent gets a free choice in placing their next mark in any of the remaining fields.
If you manage to get three in a row in one of the small game fields, you win that field and it turns into your mark. Your goal in the game is to create three of your marks in a row on the overall board by winning the small game fields.
How do I win?
While in a normal game you can always force a draw, in Super Tic Tac Toe you need to pay attention to the small fields and the overall board. To win, don’t just focus on winning singular fields. Pay close attention to where you want your opponent to go or in some cases not to go. If your opponent already has a winning position in one field, avoid giving them a turn in that field.
To play, all you need is a pen and paper. If instead you want to play online, go to Bloob.io where you can play against friends, strangers, or bots of different levels to challenge your skill!
